Questions

Frequently asked questions

How do I book a repair?
The fastest way is to book online. It takes about a minute: enter your ZIP, pick the problem and choose a time window. You can also call (929) 206-7699 or text us a photo. Check our current specials before you book.
Can you come today?
Often, yes. Same-day service is available when our schedule allows, and booking or calling early in the day gives you the best chance. Your technician texts you about 30 minutes before arriving. If your door is stuck open or your car is trapped, call us so we can prioritize it.
What are your hours?
Call or text (929) 206-7699 to reach us and check today's availability. You can book online at any time of day, and we'll follow up to confirm your appointment.
How much will my repair cost?
It depends mostly on the part that failed and on your door's size and weight. Heavy wood and oversized doors usually cost more. Our pricing page explains what drives the price, and your technician confirms the exact price before any work starts.
Can I get a price before you come out?
Yes. Text a photo or short video of the problem to (929) 206-7699. Include the springs above the door and the opener if you can. We'll reply with a price range, and your technician confirms the final price on site before starting.
Will the price change once the work starts?
No. The price you agree to before we start is the price you pay. If we find another problem during the repair, we stop, show you, and ask before doing anything extra.
Is it safe to open my garage door with a broken spring or cable?
No. Springs and cables carry most of the door's weight. With one broken, the door can fall suddenly or come off its tracks, and running the opener can burn it out. Leave the door where it is, keep people and cars away from it, and unplug the opener. If your car is trapped, call us rather than forcing the door. Learn more about spring repair.
Can I open my garage door without power?
Usually, yes, as long as the springs and cables are intact. With the door fully closed, pull the emergency release cord (usually red) hanging from the opener, then lift the door by hand. A balanced door should lift fairly easily. If it feels very heavy or lifts unevenly, stop: a spring may be broken. When the power returns, reconnect the door to the opener following your opener's manual, or run the opener until the trolley clicks back into place.
What should I do while I wait for the technician?
Keep kids, pets and cars clear of the door. Unplug the opener so nobody presses the button. Don't pull the emergency release if the door is open with a broken spring, since the door could slam shut. If the door is stuck open, move valuables out of the garage and lock the inside door to the house.
Do you repair LiftMaster, Chamberlain and Genie openers?
Yes. We work on the openers most common in Long Island homes, including LiftMaster, Chamberlain and Genie, in chain, belt, screw-drive and wall-mount models. We also repair steel, wood and carriage-house doors. If you're unsure, text us a photo of the opener label. See opener repair.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes. Repairs come with a written parts and labor warranty. New doors and openers also carry the manufacturer's warranty. See our warranty page for details.
What payment methods do you accept?
Your technician will go over payment options with you before any work starts. For new doors and openers, ask about financing options.
What areas do you serve?
We're based in Great Neck and serve nearby towns, including Kings Point, Manhasset, Port Washington, Roslyn, New Hyde Park, Little Neck, Douglaston and Bayside. See the full list on our service areas page, or enter your ZIP when you book online.
Should I repair or replace my garage door?
Most problems, like springs, cables, rollers and openers, are worth repairing. Replacement starts to make sense when several panels are damaged, the door is badly rotted or rusted, or repairs would cost a large share of a new door. We'll give you an honest recommendation. Read our repair or replace guide.
How often should my garage door be serviced?
Once a year is a good rule for most homes. If the garage is your main entrance, or you live near the water where salt air speeds up rust, consider more frequent checks. A tune-up covers lubrication, balance and safety checks, and often catches worn parts before they break.
Are you a franchise?
No. The Best Garage Door is a local company based in Great Neck that has served the North Shore since 1999. We're not a franchise or a call center. Learn more about us.
